There is nothing little about Miss Nell Fisher, not her personality and definitely not her talent. The young actress who plays Holly in the fifth and last season of the hit Netflix show, “Stranger Things”, is off to a great start to what will most likely be a bright future in Hollywood. A place she aimed to land, pretty much “from the moment” she was born, as Fisher claims.

“The photoshoot was so much fun. I love doing the photo shoots because it almost feels like acting; you can kind of step in front of the camera and just put on this kind of alter ego. They were really fun. It was loads of fun”, said our cover star.

L´BEAUTÉ Did you always know you wanted to act?

NELL FISHER Yeah, pretty much. I think I basically came out of the womb singing, dancing with jazz hands. I’ve always loved acting, always loved performing, putting on shows with my sister. I remember watching my brother’s drama play and being transfixed at three years old. Acting has definitely been sort of a real passion of mine.

I’m always jealous of people who know right off what they want to do and what they want to be from very early on.

It’s incredible, but it’s also quite daunting to have real clarity at 14…or maybe even at seven! Because I decided this is what I want to do with my life and it’s something that I enjoy so much, but now I have to go and do it!

Let’s talk about “Stranger Things”. You had not watched the show before getting the part–and really wanted to–so, how long did it take you to watch all four seasons?

I genuinely think I watched it in about a month. I mean, the whole process went quite quickly from auditioning to chemistry test to getting the part, so I had to move fast. And also, it’s just such an engaging show! Like, literally every time you end an episode, you’re like, next episode, next episode. I watched it with my whole family, except my little sister. She got a bit too scared.

I think it’s the most extraordinary show. When I was watching it, I was like, “oh, my God, I get to be a part of this”, which was the most amazing feeling.

What would you say is the most surreal thing that happened, like, on or off the set after joining this universe?

I think being on Jimmy Fallon was pretty amazing, because obviously I had watched him before I got into the whole acting thing, so it was, of course,  my first late-night appearance, and what a show to be on. It was so incredible and just so fun, because sometimes interviews can be quite, like, stressful, but it was just the best time, it was so fun.

And on set, was there anything specifically scary to film?

Well, behind the camera a lot of it is CGI, so, the demogorgon who attacks me is actually the man in the skin-tight green onesie wearing a tennis ball dangling above his head hahaha, so I think in terms of what was actually scariest, I’d say working with Jamie {Campbell]. He gets really into his craft, and he’s so amazing at it that there are moments where you’re on set, camera’s rolling, and you feel this genuine sense of terror because he is so good at his job.

The cast were really young when they started the show, too. Did they all give you advice?

Yeah, it’s such a wild ride and they’ve been on this for 10 years. I’ve got a whole load of advice from them, but I think the consensus, like, the general consensus was just to be a kid and to not let being in the spotlight prevent you from doing things like going out to the mall and having a fun time because you’re afraid people might recognise you. To be a kid and just be able to set boundaries. I’m honestly just being a normal teenager. Which, honestly is advice I needed and I’ve taken on because I think I would definitely describe myself as a people pleaser. But I think throughout, even the past month or so, where I have had people recognizing me, I feel like I’ve kind of grown in confidence in being able to say, I’m just having time for myself now.

And what do you think is the key to staying down to earth?

I think it’s having great people around you, who can recognise that you’ve had this incredible experience and can talk to you about it, but can also just treat you like a normal kid. Obviously my parents are fantastic at that, I’ve got two siblings, and everyone at school’s been great. There’s no getting all caught up in my head there. So yeah, just having a great support system around to keep your feet on the ground.

I want to know how you feel about social media and how do you handle it, especially with such a massive following on there?

Yeah, so I have my social media and I have it professionally; it is part of being an actor these days, so I use it for my work, and in a sense it does have great benefits, but I think I have a really healthy relationship with my phone and my social media.

What is one piece of advice you would give young girls who want to pursue this career?

I will relay a piece of advice that both Sadie [Sink] and Jamie gave to me, which is just to watch, if you’re in a part on a TV or film production, if you’re in a play, even if you’re just watching TV at home, just being able to watch the people around you and soak it in and watch actively. To ask yourself what was it that made you like that performance, or what did they do that was interesting and engaging and made me want to look at them? Because that’s how you learn and that’s how you improve. So in a sense, it would be like never stop learning or preparing yourself for what comes next.

What’s next for Nell? What’s your dream collaboration?

Well, there’s nothing set in stone yet or better said, nothing I can speak of. But I’ve definitely got a couple things bubbling, which is all very exciting, because obviously these massive doors have been opened for me because of “Stranger Things”; it just opens this whole new world of opportunities that I’m really excited to explore and share when I can.
